THE PLAY

THEM WITHIN US Is a romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist.

It is a tale of four characters embodied in two people. A “tour de force” for two actors who must shift “naturally” from themselves into the higher parts of themselves, and back again before our very eyes.

Roger and Susan have run out of gas. They love each other, but have lost sight of one another within the details of their everyday lives. Can they rekindle what they once had, or is it time to call it quits?

They go to a cabin in the woods, for what might be the final weekend together, to decide their fate.

At the same time, two entities, traveling “psychically” for the first time, crash into our dimension, a dimension they don’t know exists, and something goes wrong. In a fail-safe position to ensure their survival, their “psyches” are deposited into that matter which most resembles their own, which just happens to be Roger and Susan.

Now our couple, who think they know each other so well, are confronted with a new reality. In a hilarious combination of discovery and then survival, the story raises questions of how well we really know each other, and how we might actually keep love relationships alive.

From the original promo:

“Troubled lovers, Roger and Susan visit rural Vermont to work on their relationship.  Possession by aliens was not on their list of problems … until they got there.

“Will the extraordinary circumstances forced upon our couple get them to see each other anew?  Will it help them repair their relationship? —or more pressing; will they even survive?”

THEM WITHIN US had a healthy off-Broadway run, was published by Broadway Play Publishing, and subsequently has had secondary productions both in the USA and abroad.
